Riches to Poverty

What do you truly want: God or the world?  This is the question St. Francis of Assisi was faced with.  Here in this enriching video, Fr. Angelus Montgomery, CFR, shares with you the meaning of St. Francis’ love for “Lady Poverty.”  As Fr. Angelus explains, Francis grew up with an affluent life, but through different experiences discovered there was some stronger attraction calling his heart: “Lady Poverty.”  It was an invitation to empty himself of the things of the world so he could be filled with the gift of God.  Fr. Angelus reminds us that poverty isn’t for its own sake, but for imitating Christ who emptied Himself out for us.  St. Francis experienced this in a more powerful way through the grace of the stigmata.  Fr. Angelus also shares some of his own personal testimony and how everyone can live out this invitation to love “Lady Poverty” today.  “To choose Lady Poverty is to choose a disposition of the heart to receive all from God,” Fr. Angelus says. “Will I have the world?  Or will I choose God?”  May all who watch this video be inspired to accept that invitation to be filled with the gift of God.
